Have students login and go to Dance Mat Typing (BBC) in the Little Wings Web Links Folder.  They start at the stage they left off on the last time they typed.  Your records sheet should show what Level and Stage they were on.  Have them practice for 10 minutes.  Record what they accomplished today to see if they had personal growth.


Next have the students go into the Tux Math Command in Students Program Folder- click on Play Alone, Math Command Training Academy, Addition - any level can be selected to adjust to individual needs.  Practice combinations and continue to go to the next level for 5 minutes.


States of Matter

Continue from the last visit on the pictures for each page.


Pictures for each page - Introduce as needed (sample pages are in the 27th Visit to the Computer Lab)

Demonstrate for the class how to do the pictures for each page.  Each page, except the title page, should have four pictures, one in each corner, of something that represents them.  The students should start with the gases page, then do liquids and then solids (the easiest).  The last page to do is the Title page - Matter, which is diffferent from the other pages.  Check each page before the student replaces the existing page.  This is also a good time to see if the student can find their files and save a project without help.


Gases pictures and parenthesis:  On the Gases page, students need to add this sentence in parenthesis - (Gas is inside these things.)  The students need to be taught the concept of a key with two markings on it.  Explain to the students when a key on the keyboard has two symbols on it when we type, the bottom symbol appears.   Demonstrate by typing a number.  Tell them to type the other symbol on the key you have to hold down the shift key.  Demonstate with the dollar sign over the number four. 


They need to add a sentence, written in size 14, to the bottom center of the page.  Demonstrate the sentence for them verbalizing - hold the shift key down and press the number 9, type - Gas is insided these things, period, and hold down the shift key and press the number 0.  This is because we can not see gas except it is inside objects.  Pictures they should look for could include: blimps, hot air balloon, balloons, bubbles, boy blowing bubble gum, balls etc.  They should have different types of pictures (for example: not all balls).  The pictures should not include fire, steam (which is not gas), sun, etc. - anything that gas is on the outside because our sentence states that gas is inside these things.


Liquids pictures:  Since liquids take the shape of their container, students need to find liquids that are seen in a container - lemonade, water, coffee, chemistry beakers, etc.   They can not put a picture of a vase.  How do we know liquid is in it?  After putting the four pictures in the corner, they need to put an arrow stamp (Ad Lib category) pointing to the liquid.  Remind them that in stamps, they can click on the pencil on the bottom of the page and change the color of the arrow by using the fill can and the color palette, as well as the direction the arrow points by clicking on the directional arrow.  Then click OK and the arrow will be able to be placed correctly.  When all the arrows are in place, go to ABC text and type the word "liquid", size 14, and place it at the end of each arrow to identify it in the picture.


Solids pictures:  Almost every picture is a solid so this isn't hard for the students to find four pictures for the corners.


Title Page - Matter:  For this page have the students find three pictures of each of the states of matter.  Place them around the page to border the words.  Save this page.  Then demonstrate how to decorate between the pictures with a squiggly line, straight lines, dots, dot and line pattern, etc...  The students can choose what they want.  However, show how sometimes you start to draw and make a mistake and can't use the Undo Guy.  Demonstrate how you click on File,  Open, go to their F:\, click on the file "matter".  When it asks if they want to save their work, click on NO.  That's the picture with the lines they don't want.  Then the file "matter" will open with just the pictures on it and no lines.  They can now try again.  A suggestion is to have them raise their hand if they need help and you can individually  oversee them do this process.


Also have them put their name in the bottom right corner after they have decorated the border.
